The call came in at 11:47 PM on a stormy Friday: a small cardboard box, soaking wet, abandoned near a convenience store. Inside, two volunteers found Mochi — a tiny tabby kitten, barely eight weeks old, huddled in the corner and meowing weakly.
An Emergency Response
Within 20 minutes, our night response team arrived. Mochi was hypothermic and severely dehydrated. We wrapped her in a warm towel and rushed her to our emergency vet partner clinic.
"Her temperature was dangerously low," Dr. Pham recalls. "Another hour in that rain and we might have had a very different outcome."
Fighting Back
Mochi spent 48 hours under heat lamps and IV fluids. She was fragile, but fierce. By the third day, she was eating on her own — and by the fifth, she was batting at everything in sight.
The Foster Family
Retired schoolteacher Mrs. Hoa agreed to foster Mochi through recovery. What was supposed to be a four-week arrangement became permanent.
"I told myself I wouldn't get attached," Mrs. Hoa laughs. "I was wrong by day two."
Mochi is still officially listed as foster on our system. But everyone at Coverpets knows she's home.
